Today I cut my first purfling and binding channels using your binding jig. Wow, does it work great!! I have a dedicated porter cable laminate trimmer mounted on it, and I've not used a smoother apparatus in my life. Perfect channels. Thanks, Don, for the inspiration and information. ![]() ![]() ![]() Ron |

As a preface to this note, I want everyone to know that I have used literally every binding machine apparatus in my shop. I built the first "Ribbecke" style binding machine for LMI way back in 1991. I have built, bought, or tried every other type that I have heard about since then. None were easy and totally reliable. All had some downside. I finally settled on a modified version of the "Ribbecke binder" but found that I had to do much touchup by hand in order to get everything to fit properly. So that is what I did since 1991. Then, this past weekend, I finally got around to building Don Williams' design of Harry Fleischmann's binding jig. What a revelation! The very first time I tried it on an old guitar I immediately knew it worked perfectly in much the same way that I knew the Fox Bender would change guitar making forever. Suddenly I have a piece of equipment that just flat works. For those reading this post that have not figured out a way that works for them in binding guitars this is the way. So, a profound thanks to Don Williams! He has changed the guitar making community forever with his design!! Thanks, thanks, thanks!!!! |

Well, let me say thanks, but let me also continue to say that Harry had the idea for the parallelogram portion long before I adopted his design. Thanks Sylvan for pointing that out. I try to give him credit as much as I can. He was the real genius behind the jig. |
